A Gift from God

by John Adair

Every believer I have ever met has had a heart to serve God. Much too often however religion

steals their zeal and discourages them from being a witness. This only happens when a person has

yet to learn the solid, unadulterated truth of the Gospel.

A person, through their own thought process or error in teaching, begins to make themselves

the focus, instead of Jesus. It's subtle, seemingly innocent, but ever so destructive. A person

comes to know the Lord, because of the revelation and conviction of the Holy Spirit. They come

to realize their need for a Savior and their own personal shortcoming; better termed the depth of

their sin. This is the grace of God at work.

When the person forsakes their deeds, often times, it is misunderstood what it is they are

forsaking and what it is they are obtaining. When a person accepts Jesus, it's not that they vow to

never sin again. It's not that they will do their best and try real hard to be a good person. It's a

revelation and repentance to realize YOU and I CAN'T DO IT!

That's why we need a Savior. We have repented from our deeds, whether good or bad and

counted on Jesus to stand in our place for right standing before God. We stumble ourselves and

others when we allow our own measure for righteousness justify or condemn us.

We soon begin to pride ourselves on the accomplishments of the flesh and then condemn

ourselves for our short comings. In this process we take on a roll that Jesus stood vehemently

against in the Pharisees of His earthly ministry. It’s called self righteousness.

It's a righteousness that we try to obtain, maintain or qualify with our own deeds and actions. In

the process of doing this, we then become the sin police, the judge of others and the jury of our

own religion.

When John the Baptist prepared the way of the Lord, it was a baptism of repentance. What we

miss is what the repentance was from and where the ordinance of baptism placed us. The

repentance was from trusting in our own works for righteousness and believing in the Savior to

take our place for righteousness. This means it is not I that stands before God for judgment of my

sin, it is Jesus Christ.

Jesus never came to become part of my life, but to totally eliminate it and replace it with His. In

July of 1976, John Adair died and Jesus Christ added to His own body. We became one part of

the body of Jesus Christ. He is the Head and believers are the body.

We became One. He is the Husband and believers are the bride.

There is nothing except unbelief that can separate us. Faith is to believe that you are the

righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. You are the gift of Christ to the Father, whom He will

present whole and complete, without spot or wrinkle. Not because what you have done, are doing

or going to do, but because of everything He already did.

Now if you insist on standing in your own righteousness or counting on your works to gain

favor in standing with God, then I ask you, why do you need a Savior? Can you possibly add

anything to the work of Christ? Is there anything Jesus has left undone? Can you possibly

determine which fruit must change and then, make it happen, lasting forever? Cause everyone can

modify behavior, but lasting change is only by the Spirit of God. So rest in the finished work of

Christ, rejoice and be blessed.

Pray this aloud to Jesus,

Jesus, I believe you died for the sins of all and I receive your forgiveness. I want to follow you and ask to be filled with your Holy Spirit right now. I welcome the Holy Spirit and will trust Him to lead, guide, teach and direct me in service to Jesus Christ.

Now thank Him for the gift of the Holy Spirit. You can learn more about the baptism of the Holy Spirit Click Here
