We are believers in Jesus Christ. As a result of the experience we have found in Christ, it creates great joy and pleasure to share about the life, peace and grace we have found in our relationship with the Almighty God.
This motivates us to share such good news with others, usually the one's we care the most about.
In the process of sharing about this wonderful Savior, we may often find that others are not so willing or ready to hear, what or who we want to share about with them.
After a while, discouragement could begin to creep into your heart and cause many doubts about your Witnessing desires or abilities.
This is common and happens to most that find such good news in their relationship with Jesus Christ. Realizing this however, be aware the desire to Witness is from God and the discouragement you may be experiencing is not.
This is why this section is so important when training people about Witnessing. We may have grown accustomed through today's culture to relate our experiences to Microwave Theology.
Everything today for the "civilized" world is rooted in a "instant result" expectation. For example, if you want a meal, pop it in the microwave for 1 minute and presto, dinner is served. Need cash? The closest ATM will meet your need. Type away your shopping list on the internet and have it ready for you as you pull up to the store.
Soon they may not even require you to stop your car. You drive by the store, a picture is taken of your license plate, your order is dropped in your trunk and you never had to get off your cell phone or close your lap top.
This instant service mentality can become a stumbling block when we try to relate to the timing and purposes of God, especially in our Witnessing attempts.
We may think, "We applied all the steps, we did the one, two and three. We offered to pray with them, take them to church and even bought them a Bible. If there is nothing 'wrong' with them, then something must be 'wrong' with me?"
Well neither one is correct. Witnessing is more like planting and watering seeds.
In the Kingdom of God, things are done on His timing. We speak the Words the Holy Spirit prompts us to and in effect they are like seeds that go into a persons heart. Someone else might then come along and sow more Words by the Holy Spirit and it waters the seed we had previously deposited.
Over time, the Holy Spirit gradually increases the seed until one day, it is ready to be harvested and another person comes along at that appointed time and this person you have been sharing with possibly for years, accepts Jesus Christ.
You may feel a little robbed, that you were not the one to reap the harvest, maybe even a little insulted, but don't be.
You had a vital part in the harvest. God used you to plant or water the seed in the heart of a valuable soul in His vineyard.
Only the Holy Spirit knows the heart of each person and what it's going to take and how long it's going to take for them to receive the good news.
So as you Witness your faith and tell others about the good news you have found in Jesus Christ, realize the words you speak are spirit and will find their way to harvest. Just not how, where or when, you may think. This is not a defeat, it's the process of Cultivating the human heart for faith in the risen Lord.
